Shawnee Home About 1890 ca. 1910

During the 1900s Ernest Spybuck was commissioned by Mark Harrington to paint scenes of Shawnee life.
Spybuck painted this charming picture around 1910, recreating a scene from his boyhood. The family is shown wearing typical Shawnee clothing of the 1800s which is still commonly worn on ceremonial occasions today..

Many of Ernest Spybuck's paintings are now held in the collection of the National Museum of the American Indian Cultural Resources Center in Suitland, MD.
