General Description
The Food Prep Assistant helps the Food Prep Specialist carry on the duties of the kitchen and food prep for the entire center for breakfast, lunch and snacks. 
Responsibilites
Role and general responsibilities:
  • Maintain a professional attitude and a flexible, positive approach to their job and must participate in achieving the objectives of the lunch program.
  • Maintain appropriate records and fully understand confidentiality.
  • Participate in achieving the objectives of the Center.
  • Understands and applies the philosophy of Building Blocks CDC.
  • Assists in ordering and inventory of food to prepare a nutritious breakfast, lunch and snacks every day.
  • Assists in preparation and distribution of meals in keeping with the Child and Adult Care Food Program policy.
  • Assists Food Prep Specialist in maintaining and reconciling the CACFP paperwork in a timeline manner, as needed.  
  • Read written recipes and must help carefully scrutinize all ingredient labels for food additives and allergens.
  • Must be aware of child food allergies and preparing and serving alternative foods.
  • Maintain the kitchen and all kitchen equipment and storage areas in a clean and orderly manner.  Makes recommendation to the Food Prep Specialist regarding kitchen equipment and supplies.
  • Practice the standards respecting municipal health and safety laws with regard to commercial/institutional kitchens.
  • Responsible for reducing waste in the kitchen by recycling and reusing when possible.
  • Works together with teachers to form a strong team.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities regarding Children:
  • The Food Service Prep Assistant is welcoming to the children and makes them feel "at home" in the Center
  • Most important responsibility is the care, safety, and well-being of all children in the center.
  • Be flexible and able to work with all ages of children.
  • Observe and assist the children as needed in the dining area.
  • Help promote good nutritional habits and sees that there is a calm atmosphere for lunch and snack
  • Provides a model of good social conduct.
Responsibilities regarding Administration
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings when required.
  • Maintain prompt hours and notify the Director in the event of illness.
  • Follow all policies and procedures of DHS, the Center and the Tribe.
  • Has a responsibility to communicate with the Director concerns regarding any problem that cannot be resolved and is leading to a conflicting situation.
  • If child abuse is suspected, you are required by law to report the incident.  You are required to cooperate fully in the investigation of any allegation. 
Education Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Working toward or have High School Diploma or GED.* (Must have completed 10th Grade.)
  • Prior experience with Food Service, preferred.
  • Must have or willing to obtain Food Service training.
  • Valid OK Drivers License and reliable transportation.
  • Must be willing to follow the Oklahoma Child and Adult Food Program Guidelines.
  • Must be able to lift, stoop, kneel, and bend in order to pick up heavy cans and food inventory and put in proper storage area.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen.
  • Native American Preference/EOE/Drug Free Workplace
