General Description
This position reports to the Cultural Preservation Department Director and is responsible for acquiring, preparing, and organizing materials associated with the library as well as assisting in the gift shop. 
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for providing support by performing a wide variety of services to the public such as registering patrons and helping patrons locate information.
  • Recommend library materials to patrons and refer them to various collections and areas in the library and search for and collect requested materials.
  • Check books and movies in and out using a computer system, process and maintain records of overdue materials, and maintain interlibrary loans and reserves.
  • Shelve and code library materials, train staff to use online catalog, process and maintain periodical files, and maintain the Library Catalog.
  • Add barcode labels, property stamps, bibliographic labels, bookplates, plastic jackets, tape, appropriate markings to library materials and perform simple repairs on library materials.
  • Order and process new materials and equipment, prepare displays and program activities, and maintain office and library supply inventory.
  • Assist the gift shop manager, help patrons with purchases and inquiries concerning the gift shop, and assist with projects and events associated with the Cultural Preservation Department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Cultural Preservation Department Director.
Qualifications / Experience
  • One year experience of professional library experience.
  • Working knowledge of basic/copy cataloging, library, bibliographic, audio-visual, and computer technology.
  • In-depth knowledge of best practices and current standards for efficient library processing.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with evidence of learning new technologies quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and in groups, ability to maintain work deadlines, provides quality customer service, and maintains strict confidentiality of information.
  • Understand the importance of cultural preservation, and possess cultural awareness and sensitivity to all situations.
  • Must be professional in demeanor and appearance.
  • Must have a valid driver licenses and be insurable.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
