General Description

  • The Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and highly skilled candidate to serve as full-time Grant Writer. The Grant Writer will work with the Grants leadership team and program staff. Reports to the Grants Director, this position will be a key member of our Grants Team and be responsible for actively pursuing grant opportunities from local, state, and federal funding sources on behalf of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma. The Grant Writer will prepare and produce, in draft and final form, grant proposals for funding, and work with designated individuals to ensure that all deliverables are met.

GENERAL STATEMENT:
  • The Grant Writer will work with the Grants leadership team and program staff. Reports to the Grants Director, this position will be a key member of our Grants Team and be responsible for actively pursuing grant opportunities from local, state, and federal funding sources on behalf of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma. The Grant Writer will prepare and produce, in draft and final form, grant proposals for funding, and work with designated individuals to ensure that all deliverables are met.
 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare grant proposals to local, state, and federal sources.
  • Prepare compelling grant proposals for local, state and federal agencies, in draft and final form that demonstrate the need for financial support.
  • Coordinate with appropriate staff to assist with grant modifications and renewal of contracts; including rewriting and updating of narrative components and budgeting of grant renewals.

  • Coordinate development of proposals with relevant internal staff including collaboration with program staff, fiscal staff and Grants Director to formulate and complete narrative needs statements, goals and objectives, work plans, evaluation components, required charts and tables, as well as budgetary elements to ensure sustainability.
  • Work with Grants staff in identifying and gathering information on fundable projects.
  • Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking.
  • Assume other task and responsibilities as assigned by the Grants Director.

LANGUAGE:
  • Demonstrate excellent writing ability.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with individuals and groups, including occasional public speaking.
  • Ability to conduct effective public relations.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general services contracts or governmental regulations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Ability to use arithmetic skills normally applied in this position. 
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
  • Create and interpret presentation charts.
REASONING ABILITY:
  • Sufficient capability in cognitive reasoning to perform complex transactions with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Education Requirements

 Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, journalism or public administration required.
  • Mastered Degree Preferred.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience of technical writing, budgeting and computer skills.
  • Demonstrated competence in successful grant writing or other successful writing and an understanding of technical and financial requirements for large grants.
  • Demonstrated experience with Grants.gov and grant management software.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of grants after receipt, both related to completion of deliverables and maintenance of budgets.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
