General Description

Responsibilities

1. Obtains patient history, weight, vital signs and assists in the assessment of patients for symptoms of illnesses.
2. Provides practical nursing services according to established national and tribal standards, including the administration of medications and IV fluids under the supervision of the Clinic Registered Nurse.
3. Documents medical services provided in the patient's chart including all observations, assessments, nursing interventions, physician orders, treatments plans, and follow up instructions.
4. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities, surveys and peer reviews.
5. Assists in the promotion of continuity of care by providing health instructions, patient education and collaborating with other tribal and local health providers.
6. Assists with the provision of emergency medical treatment as instructed by a supervisor, including assignments relating to the Clinic Emergency Preparedness Plan.
7. Prepares and submits required reports and records in a timely manner.
8. Protects patient confidentiality according to nursing and tribal standards.
9. Assists with patient intake and information including required eligibility documentation.
10. Functions as laboratory testing personnel, when needed, under CLIA guidelines.
11. Provides Phlebotomy services; collecting adequate and correct specimens by venipuncture or capillary stick on adults, children, and/or infants.
12. Ensure the accuracy of the laboratory tests performed in the lab.  Perform and verify QC is within range as required by the procedure for all tests performed in house.

13. Provides radiological services as needed per provider order.
14. Safeguards confidentiality of the medical charts/records and complies with all local, state, and federal laws pertaining to medical records.  Assures compliance with all HIPAA regulations concerning use, retrieval, storage, and sharing of medical records.
15. Performs other appropriate duties as required or as assigned by a supervisor.
