This position is located in the buildings and grounds of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe, in Shawnee.  The purpose of this position is to perform general work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds for the Tribal Complex.
  • Maintain and perform minor repairs, including preventive maintenance procedures on buildings and mechanical equipment on a scheduled bases as directed by the Facilities Manager.
  • Performs repairs on buildings as needed, or work orders request.
  • Perform minor electrical work and repairs
  • Responds to Emergency Maintenance calls
  • Ensures that repairs are made safely and in compliance with licensing authority regulations
  • Clean debris and dust from assigned areas
  • Install equipment as assigned or needed by Facilities Manager
  • Perform minor welding repairs as needed
  • Assist with construction or remodeling projects
  • Assists and performs semiskilled tasks of a general nature in connection with maintenance, repair and construction tasks in the upkeep of the Tribal Complex.
  • Inspect properties and communicate with management regarding proper grounds keeping and general cleanup and maintenance
  • Assists and performs functions in the construction, installation and maintenance of roofs, furniture, fences, cabinets, shelving, marker boards/chalkboards, tack boards and a variety of other structures and items
  • Applicants should be able to operate Bobcat, backhoe, and forklift.
  • General knowledge of the following trades: carpentry, plumbing, glass replacement, painting, masonry, grounds keeping, appliance repair, and electrical wiring; standard practices and tools used in the maintenance and repair of building facilities; safety practices and procedures related to the building trades
  • Maintain work logs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements and Qualifications

Native American Preference/EEO/Drug Free/Smoke Free Workplace
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must have experience in carpentry, plumbing, glass replacement, painting, masonry, grounds keeping, appliance repair, and electrical wiring.  Certifications in these areas are preferred.   
  • Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
Skills and Abilities:
  1. Must have the ability to interpret instructions: Follow instructions. Have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  2. Knowledge of Materials: Skilled in the use of tools equipment such as tapes, rules, hacksaws, hand tools and power tools. Electrical work requires a knowledge of where fixtures, wiring, and controls, such as light switches, circuit breakers, fuses, relays, and outlets, are installed and how they operate; Painting work requires knowledge of standard surface preparation and coating methods and techniques; Carpentry work requires knowledge of  standard carpentry methods and techniques.
  3. Technical Practices: Knowledge of shop practices, using correct materials, handling different maintenance situations “tricks of the trade”. Knowledge requiring use of trade math in making computations such as angles, tapers, and tolerances.
  4. Work Practices: Knowledge in keeping things neat, clean and in order were you responsible for storage of supplies or equipment.  Willing to perform duties outside as needed in inclement weather.
  5. Attention to Detail: Is through when performing work and conscientious about attending to details.     
  6. Must be able to lift   50-90lbs.     
  7. Effectively follow oral and/or written instructions.
  8. Communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  9. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work assignments.
