General Description

This position is located at the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Clinic in Shawnee Oklahoma. The purpose of the Medical Assistant (MA) is to assist the providers as needed with patient visits.  During these visits the MA will also be responsible for providing accurate and timely laboratory test results to the medical staff.  The MA will also be responsible to providing diagnostic radiographic services.  This position may also include additional duties outside the rim of Medical Assistant.   It will be a requirement of this position to travel and work in the Little Axe Primary Care and/or Pluscare Clinic as needed, which are located in Norman, Oklahoma.  This position functions under the supervision of the RN supervisor and Medical/Laboratory director.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Medical Assistant:
    • Provides a basic level of care and treatment to patients per scope of practice.
    • Obtains patient history, weight, vital signs and assists in the assessment of patients for symptoms of illnesses and accurately documents patient information in the EHR.
    • Provides Phlebotomy services; collecting adequate and correct specimens by venipuncture or capillary stick on adults, children, and/or infants.
    • Functions as laboratory testing personnel, when needed, under CLIA guidelines.
    • Ensure the accuracy of the laboratory tests performed in the lab.  Perform and verify QC is within range as required by the procedure for all tests performed in house.
    • Perform preventative maintenance on all lab and radiological equipment according to established maintenance schedule/procedure and troubleshoot all instruments when problems arise.
    • Verify instrument function by performing QC and calibration when necessary and/or required and documents all repairs, replacement, and maintenance of laboratory equipment on instrument log.
    • Provides radiological services as needed per provider order.
    • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities, surveys and peer reviews
    • Independently make routine radiographic examination for diagnosis of illness or injury.
    • Safeguards confidentiality of the medical charts/records and complies with all local, state, and federal laws pertaining to medical records.  Assures compliance with all HIPAA regulations concerning use, retrieval, storage, and sharing of medical records.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.  Associates Degree in Medical Assisting or other related area is desirable. 
  • Prefer to have 3-5 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Must have experience with laboratory testing and phlebotomy.
  • Experience with digital and PACS radiology systems.
  • Knowledge of radiographic exposure technique and formulas in order to control contrast, density, magnification and distortion.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection standards, device and techniques with the understanding of the limitation of each and the ability to understand and compensate for each.
  • Knowledge of physiology, anatomy and the appearance and location of major organ systems such as the urinary track, digestive, and respiratory systems.
  • Ability to operate the radiology equipment alone.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work well with others.
  • Computer literacy required.
  • Able to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma Drivers License.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen.
