This position is located at the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Health Programs Shawnee Clinic, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The Shawnee Clinic is an outpatient multi-disciplinary clinic established and managed by the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma. The Shawnee Clinic is an ambulatory clinic that provides direct care services to Native American patients.

Responsibilities

  1. The purpose of this position is to provide technical and clerical duties and provide support to Medical Record and Health Information staff of the assigned facility.
  2. Incumbent interviews patient to obtain pertinent data and information for insurance and billing purposes, updating records data integrity, etc.
  3. Operate telephone switchboard to answer, screen and forward calls, providing information, taking messages and scheduling appointments.
  4. Greet persons entering establishment, determine nature and purpose of visit, and direct or escort them to specific destinations.
  5. Schedule appointments, and maintain and update appointment calendars.
  6. Transmit information or documents to customers, using computer, mail, or facsimile machine.
  7. Provide information about establishment, such as location of departments or offices, employees within the organization, or services provided.
  8. Other related duties will be assumed as assigned.
  9. Provides general up keep of patient waiting room.

Education Requirements and qualifications

  1. Associate’s degree in health occupations or a certificate from a Medical Secretary or Medical Assistant training program or two or more years of experience working within an outpatient or inpatient medical facility.
  2. Knowledge of commonly used medical terminology, medical symbols and abbreviations, names of medical tests, etc., to accurately enter information into patient records.
  3. Knowledge of the laws and regulations on the confidentiality of medical records and the procedures for informed consent for release of information from the records.
  4. Knowledge of general office automation, practices and procedures in order to store and retrieve general medical records data; competitive level of typing proficiency required and/or computer keyboarding for performance of general office support work.
  5. Willingness to be cross trained in other clinical functions and to perform other duties as assigned.
  6. Able to demonstrate good oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
