The Absentee Shawnee Tribe is primarily located in the heart of central Oklahoma with approximately 4,488 members as of January, 2021 enrollment record who are living in all parts of the world. Our tribal government complex is located in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Our logo features Tecumseh, a Shawnee warrior and visionary leader, who worked to unite tribes in a common homeland where Indians could live under their own laws and leaders. He died in October 1813, in battle near the area of present day Thamesville, in Toronto, Canada. The LI-SI-WI-NWI in our logo means “Among the Shawnee”

Utility Assistance Program

On behalf of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma, the Executive Committee has established the COVID-19 Utility Assistance Program in response to the pandemic. The Executive Committee understands the impact this pandemic has had on our AST community and wants nothing more than to help serve our people. With this being said, the COVID-19 Utility Assistance Program is designed to help alleviate the risk of energy utility service disconnection (i.e. electricity, gas, propane, water). The COVID-19 Utility Assistance Program is a one-time payment of $400.00 for eligible AST enrolled tribal members. This service can be used as a credit or full payment for (1) utility bill. The Absentee Shawnee tribal members who meet the guidelines are eligible for this service. Any unpaid balances from previous residences, any re-connection fees or deposits of any kind that are not “Utility costs” will not be paid. The one-time payment of $400.00 will be made to the vendor (utility company). COMPLEX CLOSURE May 14th, 2021

CLOSURE NOTICE Due to a water main break in Shawnee, the Executive Committee has decided to close the complex at noon today, Friday May 14th.

AST Gift Shop Open by Appointment Only

Our AST Gift Shop (Shawnee Location) is now open to ALL by appointment only Monday–Friday 8am -5pm.   We are also still adhering to CDC guidelines.  We will require your temperature to be taken before entering our building and masks must be worn properly to enter. We will only allow 2 customers in at a time and we request that social distancing (six feet) is maintained. Our Little Axe Gift Shop will only be open on May 20th from 8am-4:30pm.  We will be open once a month following the month of May and this will continue until further notice.

2020 Angel Tree

The Indian Child Welfare Angel Tree program helps provide Christmas gifts to Absentee Shawnee children and elders, ages 0-17 in AST foster care or in legal guardianship through the AST tribal courts and Elders 65 years and older. Once an angel has been registered and accepted their Christmas wish list is placed on ICW’s Christmas tree for donors to purchase gifts. The gifts are distributed to the family to place under their Christmas tree.
