General Description
This position is located at the Little Axe Health Clinic, Norman, OK and the Absentee Shawnee clinic in Shawnee, OK. The Little Axe and Shawnee clinic are outpatient multi-disciplinary clinics established and managed by the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma. The AST health clinics provide direct care services to Native American patients. The purpose of the position is to provide Mammographic and radiographic imaging services for the clinics patients in an outpatient setting. This position may also include additional duties outside the rim of Radiology.
Responsibilities & Duties
Responsible for MQSA/FDA facility inspections yearly.
Responsible for preparation, documentation and tracking in accordance with MQSA/FDA regulations.
Responsible for American College of Radiology (ACR) accreditation and renewals successfully.
Responsible for preparation, documentation and tracking in accordance with ACR regulations.
Perform facility medical audits in accordance with MQSA/FDA regulations.
Maintain processes and procedures for the mammography department as MQSA/FDA regulations change.
Reconcile facility medical audit.
Process referrals from providers to schedule patients for imaging needs.
Coordinate with other facilities to insure patient follow-up completeness.
Research patient history to ensure proper imaging is performed.
Acquire previous imaging from other facilities.
Send out patient notifications in accordance with MQSA/FDA regulations.
Maintain documentation of interpreting radiologists’ and physicists’ credentials, CMEs in accordance to MQSA/FDA regulations.
Communicate between mammography department and providers in regards to ordering, referrals to outside facilities and tracking for resolution completeness.
Maintain patient results, outcomes and tracking.
Responsible for maintaining quality monitoring and processes.
Responsible for coordinating Mammography staff scheduling and modality coverage.
Coordinate preventative maintenance, repairs and updates on mammographic equipment.
Responsible for ensuring Quality Assurance and maintaining processes for mammography.
Assist in coverage of patient exams as needed.
Education Requirements and Qualifications
Education and Qualifications
High School Graduate and post-secondary training as X-ray Radiologic Technologist.
A.R.R.T. certification in Radiography required.
Mammography certification through the ARRT required.
Experience with digital and PACS radiology systems.
3 years of independent performance of a number of complex and difficult examinations preferred.
Knowledge of radiographic exposure technique and formulas in order to control contrast, density, magnification and distortion.
Knowledge of radiation protection standards, devices and techniques with the understanding of the limitation of each, and the ability to understand and compensate for each.
Knowledge of physiology, anatomy and the appearance and location of major organ systems such as the urinary tract, digestive and respiratory systems.
The ability to operate the radiology equipment alone.
Knowledge of MQSA and ACR guidelines, rules and regulations.
All radiologic technologists performing mammography must meet the MQSA-required qualifications in the table below.
Qualifications Initial
Qualified Before April 28, 1999
Certified by:
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or
American Registry of Clinical Radiological Technologists, or
Licenses to perform general radiographic procedures in a state.
AND
40 hours of training in mammography
AND
8 hours of training in a Mammographic modality (e.g., digital) before beginning to use that modality.
Qualified After April 28,1999
Certified by:
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (Arrt), or
American Registry of Clinical Radiologic Technologists, or
Licensed to perform general radiographic procedures in a state
AND
40 hours of training in mammography including:
Training in breast anatomy and physiology, positioning and compression, QA/QC techniques, and imaging of patients with breast implants, and
25 mammography examinations under direct supervision of an appropriate MQSA-qualified individual.
AND
8 hours of training in a Mammographic modality (e.g., digital) before beginning to use that modality.
Continuing Experience
Perform 200 mammographic examinations over a 24-month period.
Continuing Education
15 Category 1 CEUs in mammography in a 36-month period.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of regulations in accordance with MQSA/FDA and ACR
The ability to correctly position patients for radiographic exposure including the ability to make technical adjustments to compensate for body size, frail, and immobile patients.
The ability to interact well with patients, staff, and other agency professionals.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Good organizational and assessment skills.
The ability to fully utilize a computer.
The ability to perform duties with minimum of supervision.
The ability to function as a team member.
The ability to be a dependable team member of the clinic setting and be ready to start work on time.
Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
Prolonged sitting, standing, or walking; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, and stooping; good finger dexterity and sensory perception; frequent repetitive motions; as well as talking, hearing, and visual acuity are required.
