General Description
This position reports to the Historic Preservation Director and is responsible for planning, executing, supporting, and completing assigned historic preservation projects on time, within budget, and within scope. They make sure the overall department’s goals are met. Responsibilities & Duties
•Protect and preserve the Absentee Shawnee’s Historical/Cultural Resources.
•Manage the planning, budgeting, and coordination of historic preservation projects which can range from strategic planning to art work to archives.
•Setting clear objectives, developing project plans, creating schedules, and defining deliverables of assigned projects.
•Estimating costs, locating funds via private or grants, and tracking expenses of projects.
•Build and lead project teams, assign tasks, and facilitate collaboration.
•Identify potential risks and troubleshoot to keep projects on track.
•Report project progress to the director and manage expectations.
•Follow the guidelines of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the Archaeological Resources Protection Act of 1979 (ARPA), the Executive Order 13007 Indian Sacred Sites, and other executive orders and secretary’s orders when necessary.
•Read, analyze, and interpret historical documents, anthropological documents, archeological reports, professional journals, technical manuals, government regulations, and geographic maps.
•Maintain records of THPO projects.
•Attend trainings and conferences related to tribal historic preservation, and travel to areas of interest and consultations as part of cross training.
•Write reports, business correspondences and interact with contractors, other employees, and general public.
•Assist and advise in maintaining the accuracy of information in the databases.
•Must adhere to Absentee Shawnee Tribe Personnel Policies and Drug and Alcohol Policies.
•Perform other duties as assigned by the Historic Preservation Department Director.
Qualifications Education and Qualifications
•High School Graduate or GED Equivalent.
•Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, History, Anthropology, or Archeology and/or equivalent combination of 2-5 years of education or practical work experience.
•Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information.
•Must have computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft software.
•Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients and general public.
•Must have attention to detail and high level of accuracy and must have excellent writing ability for preparing reports and correspondence.
•Able to organize/prioritize multiple tasks effectively and effective organizational skills for maintaining files and other documents.
•Understand the importance of historic/cultural preservation, and possess cultural awareness and sensitivity to all situations.
•Must have excellent customer service skills, able to work with diverse groups, and have solid interpersonal skill to work well with others.
•Effective oral and written communication skills.
•Must be able to pass a drug test for pre-employment for the Tribe
•Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
•Must be able to pass a background check. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
• Able to travel frequently, and access areas of interest.
•Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
•Sitting or standing or walking for long period of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking hearing and visual acuity.
