General Description
The licensed Pharmacy Intern plays a vital role in delivering pharmaceutical services to patients at the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Clinics. Key duties include dispensing medications, managing inventory, and patient education. The Pharmacy Intern operates under the supervision of a licensed preceptor pharmacist and reports directly to the Director of Pharmacy and/or Pharmacist-in-Charge.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Accurately prepare, label, and dispense medications under the direct supervision of a licensed preceptor pharmacist.
- Provide courteous and professional customer service to Tribal Members and the general public.
- Support and contribute to the mission, vision, and goals of the Pharmacy Department and the organization.
- Assist in patient counseling by addressing medication-related questions.
- Maintain pharmacy inventory, ensuring proper storage and tracking of medications.
- Process third-party insurance claims and resolve billing rejections.
- Initiate and manage prior authorizations with prescribers and insurance plans.
- Conduct and document Drug Utilization Reviews (DUR) under the direction of a pharmacist in compliance with regulations.
- Support pharmacy audits by maintaining accurate records and documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements and Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in, or accepted to, an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program.
- Must hold an active Oklahoma Pharmacy Intern license. Current licensure must be in good standing with the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy.
- Prior experience working with Tribal and Federal programs impacting Native American communities is preferred.

- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
Prolonged sitting, standing, or walking; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, and stooping; good finger dexterity and sensory perception; frequent repetitive motions; as well as talking, hearing, and visual acuity are required.
