General Description |
Under the general supervision of the Realty Director, the Probate/Realty Specialist is responsible for providing paralegal and realty research services necessary to fulfill the Secretary of Interior’s responsibility to determine the heirs of deceased Indian landowners of trust or restricted lands and resources, and to transfer title to the trust and restricted property to the lawful owners. The research and recommendations prepared by the Probate Specialist are the basis for certain decisions made by the BIA Attorney Decision Makers, Attorney Advisors and the OHA Administrative Law Judges. These decisions affect Indian land owners and trust assets. The purpose of the work is to gather evidence to determine probable heirs, assist in the preparation and approval of wills in administrative probate proceedings that affect trust or restricted lands and resources of deceased Indians as directed by the Secretary of Interior or his designee.
