General Description

Provides case management services to enrolled members of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe involved in child protection or foster care. These services include: referrals, case planning, and family meetings. Additionally, may be called upon to refer individuals and families with tribal affiliations who are not tribally enrolled to appropriate agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, investigates, and evaluates every complaint alleging physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, neglect, or deprivation within the defined jurisdiction of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe.
  • Reviews notifications and petitions involving dependent Indian children and take appropriate Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) action including participation in judicial determinations.
  • Makes referrals to the Tribal Indian Child Welfare and Family Preservation Worker and other service providers, when necessary.
  • Assists Law Enforcement officer in determining whether emergency removal of child from parent or legal custodian is necessary.
  • Assists Department of Human Services when alleged incident occurs off trust land.
  • Works in conjunction with Tribal Courts, Tribal Law Enforcement, Bureau of Indian Affairs and other county social services. Attend Child Protection Team (CPT) meetings and other meetings directly related to clients in case management workload.
  • Recruits and monitor foster and adoptive parents and homes.
  • Travels out of local area for home visits, safety checks, and trainings as required.
  • Completes home studies for prospective and renewal foster homes or as requested by the court.
  • Maintains confidential case records, compiles statistical information, and meets all reporting requirements.
  • Sets up and attends quarterly meetings with the Foster Care Licensing Committee to review and approve prospective foster homes.
  • Completes enrollment verification checks through the AST enrollment department.
  • Must be available to respond to calls for service on an on-call basis during nights and weekends.
  • Other Duties as assigned by Director

Education & Requirements

  • Must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, or related field.
  • Must be computer literate and possess adequate written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to a pass comprehensive background check
