General Description

The Assistant Director is a co-manager of the daycare staff, providing support, guidance and direction.

responsibilities & Duties

  • Responsible for understanding the philosophy and administrative policies of the daycare, and for ensuring that they are implemented and followed.
  • As a communicator and promoter, will channel and receive information related to the daycare to the appropriate contacts and liaisons.
  • Cooperates with licensing staff and other appropriate agencies in maintaining compliance with requirements and in improving the quality of care.
  • Maintain appropriate records and fully understands confidentiality.
  • As Assistant Director, will expose and raise the awareness of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe and the local community regarding the needs and demands demonstrated by the children, parents, and Board of the Childcare Center.
  • Serves in a leadership role as it relates to both management and instructional programming.
  • Willingness to accept other duties as assigned.
Decision-making authority. The Assistant Director will consult with the Director to determine the appropriate management of the childcare center.  The Director has the final decision.
Responsibilities regarding children and parents. The Assistant Director will ensure and help the Director and the teachers to maintain the social, intellectual, emotional and physical well-being of the children.
  • Maintain open communication with parents to ensure continuing relationships.
  • Assist the Director to maintain the center at a “full capacity," as determined by the Supervisor and grant stipulations. 
  • Will follow all DHS Regulations and Policies.
  • Steps in as acting director when director is unavailable.
Responsibilities regarding childcare staff and program.  The Assistant Director is responsible for helping the Director to provide and maintain a safe and secure learning environment for the children.
  • Assisting to help provide a healthy work environment for staff and children.
  • Assists the Director to mentor the teachers in planning and preparing their programs and offers appropriate materials and equipment.
  • Assist Director to coordinates on going staff training based upon individual staff needs.
  • Assist the Director to implement the Child Care Subsidy Program and DHS Child Care Assistance Program.
  • Always maintain CONFIDENTIALITY. 
  • Assists the Direction as needed to complete other aspects of the Child Care Center as needed.
  • Willingness to accept other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and have one of the following:
    • Director’s credential or begin process for certification.
    • Associated Degree, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
    • CDA
    • Certificate of Mastery
    • 12 college hours in child development
  • 2 years of satisfactory full-time experience in childcare setting.
  • Appropriate child development courses to meet state requirements.
  • Must have knowledge of early childhood development through education/training.
  • Must possess strong public relations and communications skills.
  • Valid OK Driver’s License and have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen.
Physical Requirements Working Conditions                                                    
  • Sitting or standing or walking for long period of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking hearing and visual acuity.
  • Frequent lifting (up to 15 lbs)
  • Occasional lifting (up to 30 lbs)
