General Description
Under the direction of the Clinical Applications Director and/or Lead Clinical Applications Specialist, the Clinical Applications Specialist (CAS) plays a vital role as a project team member assisting with implementation, integration, enhancement, and support of the EHR and other system-wide clinical applications. As a subject matter expert, the CAS provides ongoing technical support and troubleshooting for physicians and staff, ensuring optimal functionality and user experience through end-user training and software optimization. Bridging the gap between technology and healthcare, the CAS works to improve patient care and streamline workflows by effectively utilizing clinical software and third-party integrations. In addition to delivering comprehensive education and training, the CAS also supports system maintenance, enhancement evaluations, and facilitates the expansion of services through thoughtful software improvements.
Responsibilities & Duties
  • Provide responsive help desk support by identifying and resolving system issues, facilitating escalation, and ensuring timely resolution to maintain seamless clinical operations.
  • Analyze, configure, and test the EHR application according to defined specifications, optimizing performance and usability to meet the needs of healthcare professionals and support staff.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training sessions for end-users, ensuring proficiency in clinical applications, peripheral tools, third-party integrations, and cloud-based platforms to enhance efficiency and patient care.
  • Create and maintain documentation for system customizations, assisting in drafting and revising EHR guidelines, policies, and procedures to support compliance and operational excellence.
  • Design templates, build protocols, and conduct functionality testing prior to deployment, ensuring clinical applications integrate seamlessly with existing workflows and system upgrades.
  • Research new functionalities and assist departments in selecting vendors, coordinating demonstrations, and recommending solutions that align with organizational goals.
  • Support the Clinical Applications Director in project planning, milestone tracking, change management requests (CMR), and critical issue management.
  • Assist with the development and testing of custom workflows for quality measure reporting (QPP/MIPS, ACO, Insurance Payer, and accreditation initiatives), ensuring proper data elements are captured and validated for compliance and performance optimization. 
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration by coordinating work efforts with other teams to enhance interoperability, streamline processes, and improve system efficiency.
  • Obtain and maintain applicable EMR software training certifications to ensure continued proficiency, compliance with industry standards, and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Assist with special initiatives as identified and assigned while performing additional duties in support of department needs and organizational advancements.
Education Requirements and Qualifications
  • Associate Degree and/or two years working with ambulatory EHR and/or similar clinical applications; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in lieu of education may be considered on a year for year match.
  • Previous experience supporting eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, PrognoCIS EMRs and/or other clinical applications is preferred.
  • Ability to identify and enforce CMS, HHS-OCR, and ASTP (ONC) policies and guidelines regarding Hi-tech Act and HIPAA Security and Privacy Rules.
  • Proficient use of software applications, such as, Windows Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and navigating other computer and web-based tools (intranet/internet/apps).
  • Strong written, verbal communication and organizational skills.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Outstanding listening and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively work and communicate with physicians, clinicians, and practice staff.
  • Excellent analytical abilities and strong problem solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve application issues.
  • Ability to learn healthcare software and medical terminology to provide digital education and training solutions. 
  • Ability to communicate complex clinical content in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Ability to multi-task and make independent decisions with multiple and changing priorities.
  • Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Prolonged sitting, standing, or walking; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, and stooping; good finger dexterity and sensory perception; frequent repetitive motions; as well as talking, hearing, and visual acuity are required.
