General Description
This position is located at the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Clinic- Little Axe Clinic in Norman, Oklahoma. The Clinics are an outpatient multi-disciplinary clinic established and managed by the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma. It may be a requirement of this position to travel and work at the Little Axe and/or Shawnee Clinic as needed, which are located in Norman and Shawnee, Oklahoma. The Medical Assistant supports clinical operations by preparing patients for exams, taking vital signs, and assisting with procedures. They also perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and maintaining patient records. This role ensures smooth patient flow and contributes to high-quality care delivery. Attendance is essential to achieving success in this role. Responsibilities & Duties
Provide a basic level of care and treatment to patients per scope of practice.
Obtain patient history, weight, vital signs and assists in the assessment of patient for symptoms of illness and report acute findings to the provider.
Accurately document patient information in the Electronic Health Record.
Perform testing when needed, such as EKG/ECG, Spirometry and/or specimen collection, under CLIA guidelines.
Ensure the accuracy of the laboratory tests performed by completing annual competencies.
Verify instrument/equipment function by performing QC and calibration tests/maintenance per policy.
Participate in continuous quality improvement activities, surveys and peer reviews.
Safe guard confidentiality of the medical charts/records and complies with all local, state, and federal laws pertaining to medical records.
Review and assist with managing referrals as needed.
Assure compliance with all HIPAA regulations concerning use, retrieval, storage, and sharing of medical records.
Adhere to standards related to patient safety, universal precautions, proper hand hygiene, etc.
If certified, can assist with immunization or therapeutic injections per order from provider.
Assist providers and nursing staff with procedures, managing supplies/equipment and scheduling.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education Requirements and Qualifications
Education and Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Associates Degree in Medical Assisting or Certified Medical Assistant through American Association of Medical Assistants preferred.
1-5 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
Knowledge of physiology, anatomy and the appearance and location of major organ systems such as the urinary tract digestive, and respiratory systems.

Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
Prolonged sitting, standing, or walking; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, and stooping; good finger dexterity and sensory perception; frequent repetitive motions; as well as talking, hearing, and visual acuity are required.
Frequent lifting (up to 15 lbs)
Occasional lifting (up to 30 lbs)
Moderate exposure to hazardous risks, including potential for exposure to infections and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment, chemicals. Potential for bodily injury related to lifting and incidents of workplace violence. Must follow universal safety precautions. Exposed to constant interruptions, noise, disagreeable odors, and assorted chemicals.
