General Description
This position is located at the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Health Systems. The Clinic is an outpatient multi-disciplinary clinic established and managed by the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma. The purpose of this position is to conduct patient intake by collecting essential information for insurance and billing, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records to maintain data integrity. Primary duties include patient registration, scheduling new appointments, verifying insurance coverage, and ensuring accurate documentation for billing and reimbursement; instructing and assisting patients with completing documentation; answering phone calls, maintaining a professional and confidential working environment. Attendance is essential to achieving success in this role. Responsibilities & Duties
Collect and document patient demographic, insurance and ensure all new patient documents are collected and added to the database.
Verify patient eligibility and benefits with insurance companies.
Assists clients in completing and updating Patient Registration forms by gathering necessary information via electronic or mailed correspondence prior to service; when possible, input data simultaneously during the intake.
Assess client understanding of Patient Registration process to determine appropriate response to patient questions and applications and communicates appropriate information needed to patient eligibility process.
Enter, update, and verify all alternate resource data necessary for patient and third party payers.
Verify insurance coverage and obtain signature for file on forms for alternate resources.
Coordination of resources, including primary and secondary third party payers.
Maintain a professional and confidential working environment.
Explain insurance benefits, policy requirements, and filing rules to patients.
Research and apply knowledge of all insurance rules and regulations for major insurance programs in the local or regional area.
Enter patient data into appropriate database and update and maintain accurate files.
Determine protocol that identifies a responsible party’s monetary responsibility in health insurance claims.
Conduct self in accordance with AST administrative manual.
Maintain strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education Requirements and Qualifications
Education and Qualifications
High School Graduate or GED Equivalent.
3 years of clerical, secretarial, medical office, healthcare administration insurance verification or patient intake experience preferred.
Completion of a program or training in Medical Office Technology or a related field preferred.
Knowledge of medical billing, insurance policies, and electronic health records EHR systems.
Experience in working with Native Americans preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Skill in using a computer and knowledge of software to access and interpret patient data.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and staff.
Ability to handle sensitive patient information with discretion.
Self-motivated, have the ability to prioritize work tasks and be creative with projects.
Good organizational skills.
Ability to be punctual.
Ability to work well with others.
Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
Prolonged sitting, standing, or walking; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, and stooping; good finger dexterity and sensory perception; frequent repetitive motions; as well as talking, hearing, and visual acuity are required.
