General Description
This position provides critical ancillary pharmacy services to support patient care at the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Clinics. Key responsibilities include managing third-party insurance claims, identifying insurance coverage, assisting with the procurement of third party revenue resources, and performing tasks that contribute to the overall efficiency and success of the pharmacy department. This position serves as a liaison between patients, providers, insurance companies, and the pharmacy team to ensure patients receive access to appropriate and affordable medications. This role focuses on navigating insurance benefits, identifying financial assistance resources and advocating for patients to minimize barriers to care. A Pharmacy PBA works closely with patients and collaborates with other Tribal Health departments across multiple sites as required.
Responsibilities & Duties
  • Responsible for researching Medicaid re-enrollment for pharmacy patients.
  • Coordinate with Pharmacy Insurance/Inventory team to determine if patient assistance is needed.
  • Partner with AST Health PBA team to discuss Medicaid outcomes.
  • Assist patients with completing applications for alternate resources.
  • Obtain patient information through interview and electronic or mailed correspondence.
  • Perform clerical duties that include copying, scanning, emailing, and filing required documentation.
  • Enter and maintain accurate and updated patient data in appropriate databases.
  • Conduct all duties in accordance with AST administrative manual.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA regulations and requirements.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and the ability to work effectively with all patients and pharmacy team members.
  • Maintain a high level of reliability, punctuality, and a strong worth ethic.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION Requirements and Qualifications
Education and Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Must hold a valid Oklahoma Pharmacy Technician license.
  • Three (3) or more years of pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Experience working with third party resources such as Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, and patient assistance programs.
  • Experience working with Tribal or Federal programs impacting Native American communities preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance plans, and patient assistance programs and ability to navigate eligibility, coverage requirements, and enrollment processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to work effectively with Tribal members and the general public.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Positive attitude and strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple work tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform well under stressful conditions.
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s license.
  • Must successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
  • Sitting or standing or walking for long period of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking hearing and visual acuity
