General Description
The System Administrator will be responsible for maintaining the computer systems of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe. Server management is a primary responsibility, and the System Administrator would be responsible for installing, maintaining, and upgrading servers. This position would also responsible for ensuring the servers are backed up, and that the server data is secure from unauthorized access. The System administrator will also often perform light programming (usually scripting, which involves writing programs to automate tasks).up, and that the server data is secure from unauthorized access. Responsibilities
  • Knowledge and expertise on how to maintain an enterprise-wide computer system.
  • Stay informed of evolving security issues, and installs software and patches as required.
  • Ability to resolve problems that arise to maintain a consistently operational computer system.
  • Ability to maintain uptime and ensure security of data files, databases, and other critical systems of each department and program of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe.
  • Ability to monitor the system to prevent potential downtime or data loss and to enhance overall system performance.
  • Ability to execute backup and recovery of systems to ensure that in the event of a disaster, data can be restored.
  • Monitor, implement and enforce Disaster Recovery Procedures; perform testing periodically to ensure procedures are effective.
  • Continue to monitor all backup systems, fail-over and recovery procedures, ensuring all data is backed up nightly and stored according to tribal computer system policies and procedures.
  • Perform basic System, Application Server, and Database Administration / tuning duties.
  • Allocate and track server assignments for different departments.
  • Troubleshoot problems with application server, database, and operating system configurations.
  • Ensure that licensing and subscriptions are kept up to date and renewed as required.
  • Ability to plan and budget for future IT needs and requirements.
  • Maintain control of all security and access privileges, also required to setup/delete and maintain user accounts on an as-required basis.
  • Implement software and application updates for the Microsoft and Linux products.
  • Keep abreast of current and ongoing data communications technologies in order to provide state-of-the-art operations requirements for the Tribe.
Education & Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field of study is required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Microsoft System Administration to include Active Directory, Group Policy management, WSUS, DNS, DHCP, Print Services, File Services, as well as basic Exchange Administration.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Windows Server 2008-2016, Microsoft Exchange 2013 and/or 2016, VMWare Virtual Infrastructure Administration, Veeam/Exagrid Backup Administration, Cylance and Kaspersky Anti-virus.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Dell PowerEdge Servers, Dell Compellent/EqualLogic Storage, Palo Alto and/or FortiNet Firewalls, Alcatel-Lucent and/or Arista switches.
  • Will be required to pass a criminal background check.
