General Description

This position is located at the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Little Axe Clinic, Norman, Oklahoma.  The Little Axe Clinic is an outpatient clinic that serves Native Americans.  Under the direction of the Lab Manager, Phlebotomist is responsible for providing accurate and timely laboratory test results to the medical staff at the clinic.  The Phlebotomist / Lab Assistant serves as specimen collector and testing personnel for a Moderate Complexity Laboratory. Position is Full-Time Temporary to assist with enhanced COVID19 pandemic patient/employee safety ingress/egress operations.  NOTE: May be offered a permanent position if available during time period. 

Responsibilities

Phlebotomy duties are a major component of this position. 
  1. Know and follow all laboratory safety requirements.
  2. Provide coverage for lead Phlebotomist as needed. 
  3. Assist with the performing and monitoring of CLC draws.
  4. Process and ship specimens.
  5. Perform required Laboratory computer activities, patient identification, data entry and other appropriate activities. 
  6. Cleans work area and stocks with needed supplies.
  7. Participates in continuing education to enhance current knowledge on all new procedures and protocols relating to phlebotomy and waived testing.
Lab Assistant duties include:
  1. Performing routine diagnostic tests and procedures, including but not limited to: PT/INR, FSBS, qualitative HCG, Rapid Flu & Strep, Helicobacter pylori, dipstick UA, fecal occult blood cards, A1Cs, and other specimen collections.
  2. Perform daily maintenance procedures of various laboratory instruments.  Run daily control samples for required waived test(s).
  3.  Maintains cleanliness of equipment and assures equipment is in good working order; initiates requests for equipment repair. 
  4. Performs laboratory tests in the manner prescribed by CLIA regulations.
  5.  Accurately performs proficiency tests.  Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner in a patient’s sample.
           Clerical Back-up:
  1.  Provides clerical back-up for the Pharmacy department and Medical Records department.  Assist with filing when laboratory duties allow.

Education Requirements and qualifications

Native American Preference/EEO/Drug Free Workplace/Smoke Free Workplace
Minimum Qualifications: High School graduate and completion of an accredited phlebotomy course with demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy.  2 years experience in laboratory setting as phlebotomist.  Active BCLS or ability to become certified.  Knowledge of phlebotomy collection processes, universal precautions, and generally accepted safety practices.  Ability to accurately collect and process lab specimens and maintain sample reports.
Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check.
