General Description
The purpose of this position is to provide pharmaceutical services for patients at the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Clinic, as prescribed by a physician. Work typically involves dispensing of medications, inventory control, and patient education.  The pharmacist is under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy. The pharmacist supervises activity in the pharmacy.
Essential Duties & Responsibilites
Compounds and dispenses drugs, medications, controlled substances, and other pharmaceutical supplies ordered by physicians and maintains patient profiles.
Reviews patient profiles for appropriateness of drug therapy, allergies, interactions and side effects; consults with physicians regarding dosages believed to be excessive or not applicable.
Ensures the completeness of all dispensing records, compliance with all applicable legal and ethical standards, and the completion of all inventory records required by clinic policy or outside regulatory agencies.
Keeps current with recent developments and applicable literature; advises physicians and other staff concerning questions about medications and out-patient operations.
Responsible for purchasing to ensure that drug supplies are available in appropriate quantities and that needed supplies are ordered; monitors drugs for appropriate dates, packaging and efficacy; coordinates emergency acquisition of drugs.
Counsels patients and/or parents regarding medications; ensures that customer service is a top priority.
Performs quality control and quality assurance activities; identifies and reports variances in assigned monitoring activities.
Attends pertinent and applicable meetings, including inservice/educational sessions on operational and clinical topics.
Keeps informed on implementing and filing of third party prescriptions and indigent programs administered by the pharmacy department, and ensures billing data for the pharmacy is distributed properly.
Assists in monitoring of resources within the pharmacy; implements approved changes in resource allocations, identifies and reports variances.
Assists in developing and implementing departmental policies and procedures and ensures approved policies and procedures are enforced.
Assists in implementing policies and procedures to ensure the safety of staff members and the continued integrity of all tribal property and/or funds contained in area of responsibility.
Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements and Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited school of pharmacy with at least a Bachelor’s degree.   Pharm D required.
Current Oklahoma licensure.
Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of pharmacy practice and standards.
The ability to relate well with patients, to gain their acceptance and confidence.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to relate well with co-workers and the general public.
Ability to adjust to changing conditions.
Superior analytical skills.
Must be computer literate and familiar with pharmacy software, including billing procedures.
Must be able to pass a background check.
Current Oklahoma licensure.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
Sitting or standing or walking for long period of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking hearing and visual acuity.
