General Description
This position is located within the AST Health System and may work at Shawnee or Little Axe-Norman locations, or both. The purpose of the Medical Assistant (MA) is to assist the providers as needed with patient visits. During these visits the MA will also be responsible for providing accurate and timely laboratory test results to the medical staff. This position may also include additional duties outside the rim of Medical Assistant This position functions under the supervision of the BH Clinical Medical Director. Position is Full-time
Responsibilities & Duties
Provides a basic level of care and treatment to patients per scope of practice.
Obtains patient history, weight, vital signs and assists in the assessment of patients for symptoms of illnesses and accurately documents patient information in the EHR.
Provides Phlebotomy services; collecting adequate and correct specimens by venipuncture or capillary stick on adults, children, and/or infants.
Participates in continuous quality improvement activities, surveys and peer reviews
Safeguards confidentiality of the medical charts/records and complies with all local, state, and federal laws pertaining to medical records. Assures compliance with all HIPAA regulations concerning use, retrieval, storage, and sharing of medical records.
Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements and Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent. Associates Degree in Medical Assisting or other related area is desirable.
Prefer to have 1-5 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant.
Must have experience with phlebotomy.
Knowledge of physiology, anatomy and the appearance and location of major organ systems such as the urinary track, digestive, and respiratory systems.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and work well with others.
Computer literacy required.
Able to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Must be able to pass a drug screen.

Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
