General Description
This position is located within the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Health System and may work at the Little Axe Norman or Shawnee location. The Clinics are an outpatient multi-disciplinary clinic established and managed by the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma. It may be a requirement of this position to travel and work at the Little Axe and/or Shawnee Clinic as needed. The LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) provides basic nursing care under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician. Responsibilities include administering medications, monitoring patient health, and assisting with clinical procedures. The LPN plays a key role in supporting patient care and maintaining accurate medical documentation. Attendance is essential to achieving success in this role. Responsibilities & Duties
Obtain patient history, weight, vital signs and assists in the assessment of patients for symptoms of illnesses.
Provide practical nursing services according to established national and tribal standards, including the administration of medications and IV fluids under the supervision of the Clinic Registered Nurse.
Document medical services provided in the patient’s chart including all observations, assessments, nursing interventions, physician orders, treatment plans, follow up instructions, telephone and web encounters.
Participate in continuous quality improvement activities, surveys and peer reviews.
Assist in the promotion of continuity of care by providing health instructions, patient education and collaborating with other tribal and local health providers.
Assist with the provision of emergency medical treatment as instructed by a supervisor, including assignments relating to the Clinic Emergency Preparedness Plan.
Prepare and submit required reports and records in a timely manner.
Protect patient confidentiality according to nursing and tribal standards.
Assist with patient intake and information including required eligibility documentation.
Safe guard confidentiality of the medical charts/records and complies with all local, state, and federal laws pertaining to medical records.
Assures compliance with all HIPAA regulations concerning use, retrieval, storage, and sharing of medical records.
Review and assist with managing referrals as needed.
Assist in managing the patient schedule.
Perform registration desk duties when needed for the clinic.
Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Education Requirements and Qualifications
Education and Qualifications
Two years of practical nursing experience or equivalent background training including patient assessments, counseling, treating minor chronic diseases and acute emergencies preferred.
Graduation from high school and an accredited school of Practical Nursing conferring eligibility as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Maintain current and valid, Oklahoma license as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Knowledge of fundamental nursing care principles, practices and procedures.
Must have a basic knowledge of adverse symptoms and possess the ability to react in emergencies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be reliable, detailed oriented, capable of multi-tasking with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong professional customer-service interpersonal skills.
Ability to relate well with co-workers and the general public.
Ability to adjust to changing conditions.
Must be computer literate required (Windows operating systems- (Microsoft Word, Excel).
Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
Prolonged sitting, standing, or walking; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, and stooping; good finger dexterity and sensory perception; frequent repetitive motions; as well as talking, hearing, and visual acuity are required.
Frequent lifting (up to 15 lbs)
Occasional lifting (up to 30 lbs)
Moderate exposure to hazardous risks, including potential for exposure to infections and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment, chemicals. Potential for bodily injury related to lifting and incidents of workplace violence. Must follow universal safety precautions. Exposed to constant interruptions, noise, disagreeable odors, and assorted chemicals.
