General Description

This position provides pharmaceutical services to patients at the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Clinic. Key duties include dispensing medications, managing inventory, patient education, and ensuring efficient workflow. The pharmacist will work under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Compound and dispense medications, including controlled substances, and other pharmaceutical supplies as ordered by providers. Maintain accurate patient profiles.
  • Review patient profiles for appropriateness of drug therapy, allergies, interactions, and side effects. Consult with providers about dosages deemed excessive or inappropriate.
  • Ensure all dispensing records are complete and comply with applicable legal and ethical standards. Maintain accurate inventory records in line with clinic policies and external regulatory requirements.
  • Stay current with recent developments and applicable literature; provide advice to physicians and other healthcare staff regarding medications and outpatient operations.
  • Oversee purchasing to ensure adequate supply of medications. Monitor drugs for proper expiration dates, packaging, and efficacy. Coordinate emergency acquisition of medications as necessary.
  • Counsel patients and parents regarding medication usage, ensuring that customer service remains a top priority.
  • Perform quality assurance activities and report variances in assigned monitoring tasks.
  • Attend relevant meetings and in-service/educational sessions related to both operational and clinical topics.
  • Stay informed about third-party claims and patient assistance programs. Ensure the accurate distribution of billing data for the pharmacy
  • Monitor pharmacy resources, implement approved changes in resource allocation, and report discrepancies.
  • Assist in developing and implementing departmental policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with these policies.
  • Assist in ensuring the safety of staff members and the protection of tribal property and funds.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education Requirements and Qualifications

Education and Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited college of pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pharmacy practice, standards, and regulations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to build rapport with patients and gain their trust and confidence.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively relate to co-workers and the public.
  • Ability to adjust to changing conditions and effectively manage workflow.
  • Capable of managing workflow and providing direction to support staff.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in pharmacy software, including billing procedures.
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
  • Prolonged sitting, standing, or walking; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, and stooping; good finger dexterity and sensory perception; frequent repetitive motions; as well as talking, hearing, and visual acuity are required.
