General Description
This position is located at the LAHC Clinic -, Little Axe, OK, and ASTHA Clinic in Shawnee, OK The Absentee Tribal Health Authority, Inc. clinics are outpatient multi-disciplinary clinics established and managed by the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma. The LAHC and ASTHA clinics are an ambulatory clinic that provides direct care services to Native American patients. The purpose of the position is to provide diagnostic radiographic services for the clinics patients in an outpatient setting. This position may also include additional duties outside the rim of Radiology. This position functions under the supervision of the Deputy Director, Clinic Medical Director, Physician or Medical Provider.
Responsibilites
Explains procedures to the patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
Moves mammographic equipment to specific positions and adjusts controls to set exposure factors based on knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques and protocols.
Practices radiation protection techniques by using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding skills.
Follows prescribed safety standards in operating all required equipment.
Selects length and intensity of radiation exposure by adjusting equipment on an individual basis.
Examines radiographic film or digital images for image quality.
Insures equipment is in proper working order at all times.
The incumbent must be able to produce high quality Radiographs and Mammograms with a minimum of repeats.
Must be able to communicate with physicians, patients, families, and ancillary hospital personnel.
Will participate in performance improvement initiatives.
Will assist with other departmental activities as deemed necessary for the day to day operation of the department.
The mammography technologist performs various complex and routine mammography exams, assists with invasive procedures, and troubleshoots equipment.
The incumbent is responsible for cleaning the room and equipment, order supplies, develop films, and provide
basic patient care
Education Requirements and Qualifications
High School diploma and post-secondary training as a X-ray Radiologic Technologist
A.R.R.T.certification in Radiography required. Mammography certification preferred.
Experience with digital and PACS radiology systems.
Must have independent performance of a number of complex and difficult examinations; prefer at least three (3) years’ experience.
Knowledge of radiographic exposure technique and formulas in order to control contrast, density, magnification and distortion.
Knowledge of radiation protection standards, devices and techniques with the understanding of the limitation of each and the ability to understand and compensate for each.
Knowledge of physiology, anatomy and the appearance and location of major organ systems such as the urinary tract, digestive and respiratory systems.
The ability to operate the radiology equipment alone.
Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
Knowledge of MQSA and ACR guidelines, rules and regulations.
All radiologic technologists performing mammography must meet the MQSA-required qualifications in the table below. The ACR also recommends that technologists performing mammography hold the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) post-primary certification in mammography.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
Sitting, standing or walking for long periods of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling needed; frequent repetitive motions; talking, hearing and visual acuity.
Frequent lifting up to 15 pounds.
Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds.

Certified by:
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or
- American Registry of Clinical Radiologic Technologists, or
Licensed to perform general radiographic procedures in a state
AND
40 hours of training in mammography including:
- Training in breast anatomy and physiology, positioning and compression, QA/QC techniques, and imaging of patients with breast implants, and
- 25 mammography examinations under direct supervision of an appropriate MQSA-qualified individual
AND
8 hours of training in a
Mammographic modality
(e.g., digital) before beginning to

Continuing Experience
Perform 200 mammographic examinations over a 24-month period.
