General Description
This position is responsible for diversified accounting duties in reconciling of the Tribe’s general ledger including credit card reconciliation, travel reconciliation, and tracking/recording capital/fixed assets. This position is also the backup for payroll. This position reports to the Controller and is required to work independently.
Responsibilities
Enter, maintain and update Tribe’s capital/fixed asset database for completeness and accuracy
Reconcile credit cards & travel monthly
Prepare and enter monthly Indirect Cost Expenses and Revenues for both AST and LSWN, including but not limited to the General Fund, I.H.S., and B.I.A.
Review and post all payroll payments to vendors
Responsible for reviewing and entering all bi-weekly cash disbursements pertaining to payroll taxes and quarterly tax reporting
Prepare, perform and record transfers between bank accounts for LSWN and AST payroll every pay period
Clear due to/due from and normal trial balances on a monthly basis, including transfers and recording
Analyze entries and prepare various Journal Entries for AST and LSWN, as needed
Calculate and pay monthly Tribal Taxes due from Gift Shop
Maintain, invoice and reconcile Accounts Receivable accounts
Maintain and Invoice for rental properties
Track and Invoice Regulatory Fees
Responsible for payroll & leave accruals at year end
Tracking and record Quarterly stock payments and annual Management fees due
Participate in surprise departmental audits
Reconcile monthly bank statements
Assist with reconciling monthly tax collections
Ensure the GL is clean & ready for the annual audit at year end
Gather necessary documents, assist and prepares audit schedules for Annual Audits
Back up Assistant Controller with various general duties to alleviate work load when necessary
Back up Payroll Specialist in Processing Payroll, Payment of Payroll Taxes, Garnishments, and Vendors, as well as general payroll questions
Maintains professional working relationship with officials from various financial institutions
Review processes and seek new ways to improve efficiency
Perform all other duties as the supervisor may, from time to time, deemed necessary
Education Requirements
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business. Accounting preferred
Minimum 3 year experience in Tribal or Governmental accounting experience
Excellent computer skills required especially in Excel and Word
Must be able to pass a background check.
