Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma
The Absentee Shawnee Tribe is primarily located in the heart of central Oklahoma with approximately 4,661 members who live in all parts of the world as of December, 2023. Our tribal government complex is located in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Our logo features Tecumseh, a Shawnee warrior and visionary leader, who worked to unite tribes in a common homeland where Indians could live under their own laws and leaders. He died in October 1813, in battle near the area of present day Thamesville, in Toronto, Canada. The LI-SI-WI-NWI in our logo means “Among the Shawnee”

David William Powell

David William Powell, 88, of Mount Pleasant, SC, passed away March 29, 2024. He was the husband of Joan Bennett Powell of Mount Pleasant. A private service will be held for the family. Dave was born October 26, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late David Kelso Powell and Rachel Alford Powell. He attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, before serving in the United States Army. He worked as Production Print Manager at the Medical University of South Carolina for 25 years. He was a member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe, and Lifetime Member of the East Cooper Outboard Motor Club. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan Bennett Powell; four sons, David K. "Kelly" Powell II (Tracy), of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Phillip M. Powell (Rhonda) of Kingsland, GA, Robert E. Powell (Karen) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Scott Powell (Jill), of Charleston, SC; his grandsons, David K. Powell III (Mary Beth), William Drew Powell (Meghan), Reece Avery Powell and Hunter Powell; and his granddaughters, Caroline Ann Drennon (Daniel) and Megan Elizabeth Powell; his great-grandchildren, Addison, Olivia, Reece, Ford, and Maverick. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Edward Powell and Robert Morgan Powell; and his sister, Mary Rachel Cole.

May 30 from 6-9 pm at the AST Multi-Purpose Blvd, 2029 James L Edwards Lane, Shawnee, OK 74801 Best of 3, double elimination on tournament maps, no items with 7 minute matches. Come through, show out, take the trophy. Must be checked in by 5:30 pm! This is a free event for 6th-12th grade enrolled AST members and 477 participants. The Executive Committee of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma, in accordance with the Constitution, Article XVI, Section 3, “Executive Committee Meetings” here by calls and declares public notice that the REGULAR meeting of the Executive Committee of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Complex in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Weather closure

PLEASE NOTE - Due to the incoming weather the AST campus will be closing at 3:00pm today, Monday May 6.

Christmas 2018 Holiday Closings

The Absentee Shawnee Complex will be closed Dec 24 through Dec 26, 2018. So staff may enjoy the Holidays with their Families.  The AST Complex will reopen on Dec 27th, 2018 at 8:00 am. 

Enrollment Department

The AST Enrollment Department will be closed November 26 through 28th for training. We will reopen on Thursday Nov 29th 2018 at 8:00 am. 

Thanksgiving Holiday 11/21-23

The Absentee Shawnee Tribal Complex will be closing at noon on Wednesday, November 21st for the annual AST employee dinner. On Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22nd,  and Friday November 23rd all of AST Complex will be closed.  The AST Complex will reopen on November 26, 2018 at 8:00 am. 

Veterans Day Holiday

The Absentee Shawnee Tribal Complex will be closed Mon.Nov 12th 2018, in observance of the Federal Holiday Veteran's Day. The Complex will reopen Tuesday Nov. 13th 2018 at 8:00am.
