General Description
The Land Arborist (Coordinator) is primarily responsible for the day-to-day operations of all AST Tribal land maintenance both fee and trust lands. The Land Arborist will primarily be responsible for the operation Wood Cutting program.  The Land Arborist must have a strong background in natural and environmental science especially tree removal process.  They will demonstrate knowledge of natural and environmental processes and requirements over a broad range of federal, state and tribal laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Day-to-day coordination of the AST Land Management programs and personnel.
  • Trains staff to effectively carry out all Land Management Program and Grant activities.
  • Operates trucks various sizes and weights, with both manual and automatic transmissions, in loading, hauling and unloading of equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Operates heavy equipment such as backhoe, skidster, forklifts, excavator, etc.
  • Operates chainsaws and other small equipment and tools.  Maintains all equipment in safe working condition.
  • Works on site with other land employees.
  • Oversees and maintains safe working practices; promptly reports all incidents to upper management.
  • Enforces employees’ compliance with all safety rules and regulations.
  • Performs routine inspection and prevention maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor, cleans equipment.
  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
  • Produce reports monthly and as requested.
  • Attend meetings when requested/required.
  • Travel as needed and when requested.
  • Responsible for maintaining budget and approving expenses in microix.
  • Responsible for approving time card entries of employees.
  • Archive project documentation.
  • Interface with other government agencies for additional funding and program opportunities.
  • Oversees and fosters environmental programs community outreach projects.
  • Provides cultural awareness and sensitivity of Native American values and culture
Education/Knowledge  Requirements and Qualifications
  • A Bachelor Degree in natural or environmental science or a related science field is preferred and/or at least two years of experience working with tree removal.
  • Prior Tree Removal experience is preferred.
  • A valid Oklahoma Driver’s License is required.  Must be insurable.
  • Must be able to operate trucks and other heavy equipment.  CDL is preferred but not required.
  • Must be able make minor repairs to equipment. 
  • Must have the ability to use computer technology and various software programs, especially MS Windows, Word, Excel, Microix, Internet and e-mail programs.
  • Ability to interact effectively with staff members from government entities such as BIA and others.
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Applicants must have the ability to independently assess and evaluate program needs, coordinate and implement strategies, and apply this knowledge toward program development.
  • The ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check.
