General Description

This position is responsible for handling the cash management needs of the Tribe.  Responsible for Accounts Receivable and invoicing certain departments and other component units.  Performs diversified accounting duties in support of the Tribe’s general ledger.  This position reports to the Controller and is required to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and records transfers between bank accounts, as requested from Controller, Assistant Controller, and Resolution
  • Records all receipts of funds, electronic transfers, and other miscellaneous financial transactions in accounting system (approximately 150 deposit transactions each month)
  • Records and assists with reconciliations for Medical Collections for LSWN and Shawnee Clinic
  • Review and Post all payroll payments to vendors  
  • Responsible for reviewing and entering all bi-weekly cash disbursements pertaining to payroll taxes and quarterly tax reporting
  • Prepares, Performs and records transfers between bank accounts for LSWN and AST payroll every pay period
  • Performs and records transfers between bank accounts for LSWN and AST check run, as needed
  • Responsible for clearing due to/due from and normal trial balances on a monthly basis, including transfers and recording
  • Responsible for Preparing and entering monthly Indirect Cost Expenses and Revenues for both AST and LSWN, including but not limited to the General Fund, I.H.S., B.I.A. and Grants
  • Analyzes entries and prepares various Journal Entries for AST and LSWN, as needed
  • Calculate and pay monthly Tribal Taxes due from Gift Shop
  • Maintain, Invoice and Reconcile Accounts Receivable accounts
  • Maintain and Invoicing for rental properties and Regulatory Fees
  • Responsible for cash receipt accruals at year end
  • Responsible for tracking and recording Quarterly stock payments and annual Management fees due
  • Participates in surprise departmental audits
  • Prepares reconciliations of certain General Ledger accounts, cash, medical collections, pharmacy adjustments, bad debt and others as assigned
  • Monitor bank accounts for activity such as automatic transfers and low balances
  • Maintains professional working relationship with officials from various financial institutions
  • Participates in year-end audit – gathering data and information as necessary
  • Back up Assistant Controller with various general duties to alleviate work load when necessary
  • Backs up Budget Analyst for budgets requests and journal vouchers
  • Back up Payroll Specialist in Processing Payroll, Payment of Payroll Taxes, Garnishments, and Vendors, as well as general payroll questions
  • Review processes and seek new ways to improve efficiency
  • Performs all other duties as the supervisor may, from time to time, deemed necessary

Education requirements

High School Diploma required.  Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Business preferred.
Minimum 3 years experience in Tribal or Governmental Accounting required.
Excellent computer skills required especially in Excel and Word
Must be able to pass a background check.
