General Description

The Director is a leader of the daycare staff, providing support guidance and direction.

Requirements

  • Responsible for understanding the philosophy and administrative policies of the daycare and Tribe, and for ensuring that they are implemented and followed.
  • As a communicator and promoter, will channel and receive information related to the daycare to the appropriate contacts and liaisons.
  • Must be willing to be innovative with child care objectives and able to convey those ideas to staff.
  • Must be able to keep up to date on all early education /child care initiatives that are important to the community, the center and the Tribe. 
  • Cooperates with licensing staff and other appropriate agencies in maintaining compliance with requirements and in improving the quality of care.
  • As a Teacher, will expose and raise awareness of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe and the local community regarding the needs and demands demonstrated by the children, parents, and the Tribe.
  • Serves in a leadership role as it relates to both management and instructional programming.
  • Must be willing to work in a classroom or kitchen, if needed.
  • Responsibilities regarding childcare staff and program: The Director is responsible for hiring staff (teachers, administrative staff, cook, etc.).
  • Responsibilities regarding finance: The Director implements the budget in collaboration with the Finance Department.
  • Willingness to accept other duties as assigned.
Decision-making authority. The Director has the final decision regarding center policies and administrative policies. The Director may need to consult with the Governor on issues outside the policies and procedures.
Responsibilities regarding children and parents. The Director will provide direction and leadership to the Program Assistant, Teachers and Staff.  The Director will ensure the teachers maintain the social, intellectual, emotional and physical well-being of the children.
  • Maintain open communication with parents to ensure continuing relationships.
  • Maintain the center at a “full capacity," as determined by the grant stipulations. 
  • Will follow all DHS Regulations and Policies.
  • Provide adequate direction to the Program Assistant when not available.
Responsibilities regarding childcare staff and program.  The Director will provide and maintain a safe and secure learning environment for the children.
  • Assisting to help provide a healthy work environment for staff and children.
  • Mentor the teachers in planning and preparing their programs, and offers appropriate materials and equipment.
  • Coordinates ongoing staff training based upon individual staff needs.
  • Maintain the DHS Child Care Assistance Program and assist the Grant Coordinator with the implementation of the Child Care Subsidy Program.
  • Always maintain CONFIDENTIALITY. 

Education requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have at least a CDA Credential or Certified Childcare Professional Credential with 2 years of satisfactory full-time experience in child care management with at least a Bronze Director’s Credential;
OR
  • Bachelor Degree with at least 12 college hours of Tier III training in Early Childhood Education or an approved related subject, Master’s Degree Preferred.
  • Must possess strong public relations and communication skills.
  • Valid OK Driver’s License.
  • Must pass physical exam, drug screen and have a current TB test and Hepatitis A shots.
  • Must pass background check and fingerprint clearance.
