General Description
Under the general supervision of the BIA Self-Governance Office.  Performs journey-level work in the construction, repair and maintenance of AST Tribal Member Home Repairs.  Responsible for the maintenance, building, installing and repairing structures, fixtures and other items within the homes of tribal members, specifically in regards to carpentry work.
Responsibilities
  • Inspect homes of AST tribal members and make recommendations of needed repairs to the supervisor.
  • Responsible for the design, construction, remodel and retrofits and repairs of interior and exterior structures made of wood, drywall, plaster, concrete or brick; including cabinets, tables, shelves, benches, partitions, flooring, doors and windows.
  • Ability to perform a full range of carpentry assignments using independent judgment to make decisions requiring the application of procedures and practices to specific work situations.
  • Responsible for knowing and understanding all job related paperwork, ie. permits, plans, and specifications.
  • Ability to safely operate a wide variety of hand and power tools, forklift, tractors and various other types of machinery.
  • Responsible for maintaining the equipment necessary to complete carpentry projects.
  • Monitors work completed by outside contractors for adherence to cod requirements and reports back to supervisor.
  • Travel as needed and when requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education / Knowledge Requirements and Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two or more years of journey-level experience working as a carpenter in a commercial, industrial or facilities operations setting, including rough and finished carpentry.
  • Minimal knowledge and experience working and repairing plumbing, electrical on construction sites.
  • Common knowledge of equipment operating.
  • Overall experience in maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment of carpentry trade. 
  • Knowledge of potential occupational hazards connected with maintenance work and the safety standards and practices, which should be applied.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities such as but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 100lbs unassisted), bending, standing, pulling, stooping, climbing, or walking for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical hazards as well as environmental hazards such as mods and various solvents.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s Licenses.
  • Must be insurable.
