Job Description
The Absentee Shawnee Tribal (AST) Health System is a tribally owned healthcare corporation that services both AST and other Native American Tribal Members.  We are offering internship positions with the prospect of attracting and locally growing our own talent for a career in a healthcare profession, either locally or within the state. 
Job Title or Position:
Healthcare Professions Intern/Workstudy. This internship will spend multiple days each week up to 20 hours a week working within the health system primary care environment, in a variety of healthcare and healthcare support roles as an entry-level (unlicensed and uncertified) part-time employee.
Expectation/Responsibilities of the Position:
1. Work with staff on policy research/development issues in a timely manner.
2. Attend and record meetings and assist in preparation of minutes/agendas.
3. Assist in advancing initiatives to expand healthcare initiatives/community outreach.
4. Assist in all areas as assigned with administrative support/assistance in all clinics.
5. Assists management/staff with graphs and charts.
6. Assist in clinical areas as per guidance of directors/professional staff.
7. Call patients and family members for appointments/surveys.
8. Assist in healthcare operations as needed by department managers/staff.
9. Assist with filing, answering the phone, and other duties as assigned. 
10. Intern will comply with all health system and tribal policies and procedures.
11. Must comply with CDC and OSHA requirements for COVID protocols while working in a healthcare clinic setting; must be fully vaccinated as identified by the CDC.
12. Cultural immersion activities are numerous and participation in at least one event or more are expected as part of the program.
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled or actively seeking enrollment in a College or University Professional degree program or vocational program in a healthcare related field with any of the area vo-techs.
Working Conditions:
Twenty hours/week Monday-Friday. May be some evening/weekend hours. A schedule of sharing time between the health system’s locations will be developed before the internship begins.  Intern must be flexible in their support/assistance to departments. 
On-Site Supervisors:
A variety of either Administrator/Public Relations Director/HR Director, as necessary for the successful completion of this program.
Supervision Plan:
A day-to-day and weekly supervisor will be identified, and will be the on-site supervisor for intern.  For training, management oversight, and scheduling purposes, Admin/PR/HR, will be whom the intern reports to on a daily basis. Intern will meet with supervisor as needed for any issues or concerns or to address scheduling or other unique needs.
