General Description
Under the direction of the Lab Director, the Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for providing accurate and timely laboratory test results to the medical staff at the clinic. 
Responsibilites & Duties
Provide Phlebotomy services; collecting adequate and correct specimens by venipuncture or capillary stick on adults, children, and/or infants.
Follow department policies to correctly identify the patient verifying the date of birth and name before collection of any specimen for the lab and label the specimens correctly with either the labels with patient information or hand written names with date, time, and initial and will process specimens correctly according to testing requirements.
Will serve as a resource to other lab employees when needing assistance with difficult draws and help instruct patients in the collection and handling of such specimens as urines, stools, sputum, etc.
Perform testing on specimens in the clinical laboratory according to the procedures.
Ensure the accuracy of the laboratory tests performed in the lab. Perform and verify QC is within range as required by the procedure for all tests performed in house.
Perform preventative maintenance on the lab equipment according to established maintenance schedule/procedure and troubleshoots all instruments when problems arise.
Verify instrument function by performing QC and calibration when necessary and/or required and documents all repairs, replacement, and maintenance of laboratory equipment on instrument log.
Assist with restocking of supplies in the lab and phlebotomy area, making copies, faxing, shredding, gathering monthly workload data and record filing.
Follow the laboratory’s corrective action policies and document all corrective actions taken.
Assist with logging, ordering, and packaging specimens for the reference lab as well as verifying the test results when they are received from reference laboratory for all tests sent out for testing.
Maintain the laboratory according to CLIA standards and maintain absolute integrity in the accurate performance and reporting of results.
Follow HIPPA guidelines for maintaining confidentiality with all patient related information.
Use and understand the laboratory information system referred to as Orchard for ordering tests, resulting tests and printing patient results as needed for the lab.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Associate Degree level and/or successful completion of an Associates of Applied Science.
Two years experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
Completion of a Medical Technician Program (MLT) or licensed MLT (ASCP) preferred.
Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
