You May Be Eligible for a $0 Cost Health Plan Under the American Rescue Plan. Help yourself, help your tribe and see if you will qualify for coverage that will provide you and your family with immediate access to specialized healthcare at no cost to you or your tribe. Did you know? The American Rescue Plan (ARP), recently signed into law by President Biden, increases and expands eligibility for cost-savings programs under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in the form of premium cost assistance for individuals enrolled in Health Insurance Marketplace plans. The premium assistance is in the form of a IRS Advance Premium Tax Credit taken in advance of the tax year, lowering or eliminating health insurance premiums for lower-and middle income families. Signing up for a low-or-zero cost health plan allows tribes to receive reimbursement for services, which frees up more dollars to help those who are not eligible for cost savings programs, helping Purchased Referred Care dollars go further. Native Americans must apply for all available resources, if eligible, to help augment the cost of tribal healthcare services To Apply: Health Insurance Marketplace www.healthcare.gov 1 800.318.2596 We Can Help Contact a Patient Benefit Advocate Little Axe Health Center 405.447.0300 Shawnee Clinic 405.878.5850 www.asthealth.org

PRESS RELEASE:  Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine 14 April 2021   The AST Health System has paused its inventory of all Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccinations as per the CDC and FDA guidelines via communication with the I.H.S. OKC Area Office.   To date, none of the very limited inventory has been provided to anyone serviced by the AST Health System or its Public Health Department. Due to this development, it will not be available at the upcoming AST General Council or at any other vaccination event until further notice. We will continue to offer the Pfizer and Moderna at the General Council Meeting for those who still want a vaccination. The FDA is asking states to temporarily halt using J&J’s one-dose COVID-19 vaccine after six people in the U.S. developed a rare blood-clotting disorder.   The FDA said the recommendation is “out of an abundance of caution.” The cases occurred in women ages 18 to 48, with symptoms developing 6 to 13 days after they received the shot.   If you have received the J&J vaccine by another provider, or at another location, it is highly recommended you discuss any and all concerns with your provider regarding your J&J vaccination.   The Pfizer and Moderna vaccinations continue to be offered as none of the J&J vaccination concerns affect our ongoing vaccination effort with Pfizer and Moderna, locally or nationally.   To schedule an appointment to receive the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, please call the AST Health System’s Public Health Department at 405.701.7190 or 405.701.7600. For the latest updates on vaccine eligibility and distribution, please visit https://www.asthealth.org/covid-19.   For more information on the J&J vaccine, please visit CDC and FDA recommended a pause in the use of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine.   # # #

Sexual violence is any type of unwanted sexual contact, ranging from sexist attitudes and actions to rape and murder. Sexual violence can include words and actions of a sexual nature against a person’s will. An offender might also use force, threats, manipulation, or coercion to commit sexual violence.   There is a social context that surrounds sexual violence--social norms that promote violence, using power over others, unhealthy concepts about masculinity, the subjugation of women, and silence about violence and abuse contribute to the occurrence of sexual violence.   Oppression in all of its forms is among the root causes of sexual violence. Sexual violence is preventable through collaborations of community members at multiple levels of society: homes, neighborhoods, schools, faith settings, workplaces, and other settings. We all play a role in preventing sexual violence and establishing norms of respect, safety, equality, and helping others.   Visit https://www.nsvrc.org to find information if you are a survivor or how to support survivors.

Hello Everyone!!   April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and like many events across the nation, the Indian Child Welfare Child Abuse Prevention month kickoff is cancelled due to the pandemic. We are still hoping to spend the month of April spreading awareness about child abuse and we need your help. ICW will be moving our campaign online and we are asking you, our supporters to assist us. Please wear blue every Friday in April and  take a picture of yourself, your kids, your pets or your co-workers wearing blue and holding one of the attached signs. Then send the pictures (if you wish) to ICW@astribe.com so we can post them and enter them in the Crimes Against Children’s National Conference in August 2021.   Thank you for your continued support.
