In article XVII-Quorum, the constitution reads as follows: General Council meeting, fifty (50) members of the General Council, who are eligible voters, shall constitute a quorum to transact business at any duly called General Council meeting. On Saturday October 31, 2020, the 85th General Council meeting was to be held at 10:00a.m.  The Executive Committee called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.  The Election Commission confirmed that 27 members were in attendance and a quorum was not present.  The Executive Committee adjourned the meeting at 10:03 a.m.  The General Council meeting did not take place due to not meeting the Constitutional requirements.   If you are interested in a General Council book, you may request a copy from the Secretary’s office or the Election Commission.  If you have any question regarding any of the reports from the GC book, you may email the Executive Committee at executive.committee@astribe.com

The AST General Council was set for this morning @ 10am @ the tribal complex.  Due to lack of a quorum, the General Council meeting could not commence.  The Executive Committee would like to thank those who did make it out this cold windy morning.   AST members who would like to have a copy of the General Council booklet mailed to them, please contact the Tribal Secretary’s office @ 405.275.4030 during normal office hours.  Also, Thunderbird Casino is offering $10 free play to all AST members today!!!

On October 30, 2020, we will have employees down at the multi-purpose building from 8-5pm to help complete with assistance applications. If you are applying for the rental assistance you will need the following: CDIB card Rental/Contract Agreement from Landlord W-9 from Landlord   If you are applying for the utility assistance you will need the following: CDIB card Utility bill (if bill is in spouse’s name you will need their identification)   If you are applying for the PPE/Food assistance, you will need the following: CDIB card   We will be onsite to help any tribal members complete their assistance applications and meet the deadline.     Thank you

The Absentee Shawnee Tribe has declared a State of Emergency for the five counties in the tribes service area.  Therefore we will be opening the Little Axe resource center to all tribal members that are without electric this evening beginning at 5:00 pm to 10:00pm. You will have a place to charge your electronics and eat a hot meal.  The showers will also be available if you would like to use the facilities.  You will need to bring your own toiletries; this will not be provided.  The resource center will open daily from 8:30am to 10:00pm, until all power is restored.  The multipurpose building on the tribal complex will also be opened beginning Friday October 30,2020 from 8-5pm. This location will allow you to charge your electronics and it will provide snacks and drinks. Due to inclement weather, the Absentee Shawnee Complex will be closed on 10/27/2020. We will evaluate the situation tomorrow for a possible Wednesday reopen. Stay warm and be safe.

The Indian Child Welfare Angel Tree program helps provide Christmas gifts to Absentee Shawnee children and elders, ages 0-17 in AST foster care or in legal guardianship through the AST tribal courts and Elders 65 years and older. Once an angel has been registered and accepted their Christmas wish list is placed on ICW’s Christmas tree for donors to purchase gifts. The City of Shawnee will be turning off the water to the Shawnee complex for waterline maintenance.  Therefore the Shawnee complex will be closed on Monday, October 12, 2020.  We will resume business the following business day, October 13, 2020 at 8:00 a.m.  Should you have any question please feel free to contact my office.

Tribal members, Due to the recent number of outbreaks within several departments of the Shawnee campus, the Executive Committee has agreed that no visitors would be allowed during the Special EC meeting, 10/7/2020.  Please understand we are here to protect all tribal members as well as the staff that will be in attendance.  You may review the agenda on the web page as well as the meeting video.  This video will upload immediately following the meeting.
